Beaches and Coastlines
Being in the “heel” of the boot, we are lucky enough to have two coastlines, both close. Most days here the only real decision is which sea — the wilder Adriatic to the east, or a longer drive to the calmer Ionian side.
The lido way
Italians mostly do beach days properly — a lido with sunbeds, umbrellas, a bar, somewhere to shower off. Our favourites are around Savelletri, where parts of the beach club sit right over the ancient ruins of Egnazia — a genuinely strange, wonderful thing to swim past.
Wilder edges
For something rockier and closer to empty, Torre Pozzella's little coves are worth the walk in from the car, and there's a small café right there for when you need one.
